Abstract Art is by definition "art that does not depict".
To me that means that the viewers get to decide what they see in the work. It has been my experience that when different people view my work they each see different things. That fact pleases me because it means each person gets to use imagination
and participate in the completion of the piece. Since our brain is wired to identify patterns, shapes, textures, colors, and
depth and then put a label on what it sees, my work is intended to give the viewer plenty to work with. I have dedicated a page on this site for detailed close ups to illustrate. Close up
I paint on canvas, poster board, glass, fabric, paper towel, wood, mirrors, plastic, shelf paper, and other surfaces or combinations
of several on one piece.
I use acrylics, inks, oils, dyes, crayons, glitter and other items and apply them with many different tools.
To acheive the results I desire I use many different items to remove or blend layers of colors and material.
I have used crumpled paper, bubble wrap, sponge, fabric, condoms (filled with water), a notched trowel, paint roller, plastic
tubing, string, just about anything that looks like it might produce an interesting effect.
Also in the gallery you will find several purely digital works and one Batik (Pansies on Paper Towel) and one Suminigashi piece.
So, thank you for your interest and time. Please take a look and see what you can see.
Enjoy! e
